The traditional Branko Bošjnak Memorial tournament was held for the 21st time in Samobor, Croatia, on October 22, 2016. The organizer of the competition was Karate club “Mladost”.
The competition is held in memory of Karate club “Mladost” member, Branko Bošnjak, who lost his life in Croatian war for independence. Branko Bošnjak was a member of the Special police forces unit “Alfa”.
In this year’s competition, participated 60 fighters from 12 European countries: Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Romania, Sweden, Greece, Spain and Croatia. Croatia was represented with 9 fighters.
The sponsors of the competition was once again two Croatian Government ministries: Ministry of War veterans, Ministry of police, City of Samobor, and Samobor sport association.
Opening ceremony was attended by minister of War veterans, Mr. Tomo Medved, who opened the tournament, vice president of Croatian parliament Mr. Milijan Brkić, representative of Ministry of Police, Mr. Vladimir Faber, and representative of Croatian Olympic Committee Mr. Siniša Krajač.
The tournament was a great success, and well organized, and this year as many before, many European championship medalists participated. Once again two world best fighters participated in the tournament, Donatas Imbras with his team and Valeri Dimitrov as a referee.
