Date: February 25th, 2023
Place: Suntec city, Singapore
Organizer: WKO Singapore Branch
On the 25th February, WKO Singapore performed a demonstration at Japan Travel Fair organized by JNTO (Japan National Tourism Organization) at Suntec City, one of the biggest and most popular shopping malls in Singapore.
Japan travel fair was successfully held for the first time in 3 years after the Covid pandemic. This three-day event held various activities and stage performances, and drew a lot of attention from a huge crowd of audiences.
Together with Shihan Sori (Kyokushin Zenwakai) and support by Shihan Patrick Teo (the branch chief of Shinkyokushin Singapore), Sensei Suzuki organised the 20min Karate demonstration, showcasing some of the features of Karate.
Demonstration started with Kihon, followed by Kata (Yantzu), and board breaking including a three-direction board breaking by young students. Then Sensei Suzuki performed a three-direction board breaking followed by self-defense techniques. Shihan Sori demonstrated his conditioned body by getting hit by a bamboo sword and performed some Kumite techniques as well. The demonstration finished by the impressive baseball bat breaking, and ended with big applause from the full audience.
Before the demonstration started, the promotion video of the 13th World Open Karate Championship was played on the stage screen. It captured the interests of the audience and successfully introduced what the Full-contact Karate tournaments are like.
The demonstration was a huge success. It did not only achieve the introduction of Singapore’s Full contact karate scene, but also provided the rare opportunities for the students to show what they have learnt to the public audience.
